Nikita Season 2 Episode 22 – Crossbow

Title: Crossbow

Air Date: May 11 , 2012

Synopsis: Percy calls the President of the United States and threatens to set off a nuclear explosion unless his demands are met. Birkhoff finds two scientists that could help stop Percy’s new nuclear plan sending Nikita and Michael after one and Alex and Sean after another target.

Maxwell Air Force Station, North Dakota. A Division agent, Robby, infiltrates the stations and steals several old computer mother boards that haven’t been active for 20 years. (I do like the recurring roles in this show compared to LFN. Gives it more continuity I think.)

Division. Percy hands the boards to Sonya to install telling her, “The fate of the world lies in your hands.”

Safe House. Nikita wakes up from a nightmare beside Michael. Fletcher digs up data on a number of old aerospace engineers dieing of suspicious causes recently. Only two engineers with the same skill set from project Crossbow appear to remain alive. Michael suspects Percy may want to use an old satellite to guide a nuclear missile.

Washington D.C. CIA director Kendrick gets a call from Ryan Fletcher to fill him in. Kendrick tells Fletcher about the stolen control boards.

Safe House. When the view they the security tape. Alex recognizes the operative as Robby, the cadet that went nuts while she was in Division and she thought he was cancelled. Birkhoff locates one of the engineers, Henderson, by tracking his propane purchases. Nikita and Michael go after him while Alex and Sean follow Robby into upstate New York.

Shipping Yard. Nikita and Michael find Henderson. He tells them the other scientist died of cancer 10 years ago. Henderson gets very nervous when he realizes someone got Crossbow online. Before he is able to tell them any details about the project Division agents arrive and open fire. Michael makes short work of them by blowing the propane tanks and taking out all the Division agents. However, Henderson died during the attack. Taking with him any knowledge of how to easily disable the satellite. They search his trailer and Nikita finds an old Betamax tape (it lost out to VHS during the VCR era; for you young folks those were before DVRs) in the refrigerator.

Research Reactor, Upstate New York. Alex and Sean find Robby near the reactors. Alex confronts Robby but falters when he mentions being a Cleaner now. Sean knocks him out and they restrain him in a nearby tunnel. He won’t give up any information but they do find some type of transmitter on him.

Safe House. Birkhoff indeed pulled a Betamax player out of storage and they see Henderson highlighting a Star Wars initiative, Crossbow, from the President Regan era. Satellites that were supposed to shoot missiles out of the air but never succeeded. They are puzzled why Percy wants the satellite. Birkhoff realizes it could hit a stationary object on Earth. “Percy has control of his own personal Death Star.” They call Ryan in D.C. who, along with Kendrick, advises the President of the United States.

Division. Sonya tells Percy the boards are online and he has control of a satellite. He sends it to upstate New York.

Research Reactor. Alex is still trying to reason with Robby. He slips his restraints and runs out of the tunnel with the transmitter and drops it down one of the reactor silos just before Sean shoots him. Alex goes to his side as he’s dieing. “Alex, get out of here or you won’t have a future either…”

Alex reports back to Nikita at the safe house but they’re still not sure what the device was supposed to do. Birkhoff says it could be a beacon or transmitter.

Oval Office. Kendrick shows the President that a satellite was re-tasked. The hot phone rings, “This is Percival Rose and I created Division. Ring a bell?” Percy warns him of a demonstration.

Safe House. They’re discussing how the satellite from the 1980s would target and realize Robby set a beacon at teh reactor. Nikita tells Alex to get out now as they see a reactor heating up.

Research Reactor. Alex and Sean speed away on the motorcycle as a reactor explodes in the background.

Division. Percy calls the anonymous man about getting into “The Club”. The man would like another demonstration and asks Percy to have the President say a quote on air.

Nikita is speaking with Ryan on the phone. Alex and Sean made it out of the blast area in time. But they still don’t know Percy’s end game.

White House. The President addresses the press, and Nation, and uses the quote as demanded by Percy. Percy has gained favor with “The Club” but they want to take it to a higher level. Percy calls the President again telling him to cease peace talks with Afghanistan tonight or there will be a nuclear strike in a populated area. Ryan walks out of the Oval Office and fills in Nikita.

Safe House. Michael, Nikita, Birkhoff, Sean, and Alex are horrified at the thought of Percy having control of the President. Nikita wants to go into Division to take away control of the satellite. The rest of the team is a little stunned and reluctant but they see it as the only way and begin planning a surgical assault. After they have their plan together. Birkhoff takes a moment with Nikita, “I really hope this isn’t the last time we see each other.” Then kisses her on the lips. “May the force be with you.” As he walks past Michael, “You can kick my ass when you get back buddy.” “Will do.”

Michael and Nikita joke briefly about Birkhoff’s actions. Nikita is concerned she’s making the decision for everyone. Michael assures her she is not. “My worst nightmare is dieing in that hell hole without you.” Michael continues to reassure her.

Oval Office. Kendrick and the President, along with military advisers, are discussing alternatives to deal with Division. Kendrick assures them that Division was built to withstand a nuclear hit. The President replies, “So you are telling me that the combined might of the U.S. military is helpless against a mad man? From New Jersey?!”

Aerial view of farmland. Sean confronts one of the Division sentries posing as a farmer. Alex knocks him out.

Ryan calls Birkhoff hoping for good news. Birkhoff says they’re just beginning the run. He zooms in on some schematics that show the farm sitting on top of Division headquarters.

A Farm in New Jersey. Sean drives the truck back to the farm where they disable the second sentry. Nikita and Michael go to blow the hatch on the abandoned underground silo. Alex and Sean secure the sentries in the barn; alive so their trackers stay online and all appears normal inside Division. Unfortunately, the ladder inside the silo was removed. So Nikita must go in to the server room alone while Michael anchors the rope. Michael is not happy about the change in plans. “You scare the crap out of me but I love you anyway.”

Division. Nikita makes her way through the ventilation to the server room. She quickly takes out the techs and sets a charge after Birkhoff walks her through finding the right communication section.

Farm. While Alex and Sean are not paying attention the female sentry kicks her legs up over the man’s neck and snaps it. With his tracker disabled Sonya gets an alert inside Division. Percy sends a team up to the farm. After getting no response from the server room he sends security there and locks down Division.

Michael starts urging Nikita to get out but she insists on completing the mission. Finally he stakes down the rope and goes in after her. Birkhoff warns him the rope won’t hold. Michael makes it part way through the ventilation when Nikita tells him to blow the charge but he won’t do it right away. Nikita insists he blow the charge before the guards find it but Michael still refuses.

Above ground, the alpha team attacks Alex and Sean.

Nikita takes out a guard as she runs from the server room and screams to blow the charge. Michael finally does. Nikita is knocked to the ground by the blast.

Michael calls, “Nikita? Nikita?”

Nikita Season 2 Episode 21 – Drop Dead

Title: Drop Dead

Air Date: May 4 , 2012

Synopsis: When it looks like Percy’s nuclear weapons plan is getting out of control, Ryan suggests they go to the director of CIA. Nikita is opposed but Michael takes Ryan’s side and tensions rise.

Nikita and team setup a buy with General Koong, with intel from Ryan Fletcher (former CIA from previous episodes) to obtain a nuclear trigger but Division intercepts the triggers for Percy. Sean gets hit in the fight.

Beach House. Alex is watching over Sean. Fletcher says Percy still needs missile casings to complete his nuclear bombs and he needs the CIA resources to help. Flash back five years ago Nikita is at a function with Percy meeting Morgan Kendrick, the new Director of CIA. Ryan and Michael decide to trust him despite Nikita’s reluctance.

Michael and Ryan meet Kendrick at a club. Kendrick thought Fletcher was dead. Nikita shows up unexpectedly and talks to Michael. Fletcher confronts Kendrick with getting him intel to pass to Nikita on where Percy might get missile casings. Nikita brushes by Kendrick on her way out.

Beach House. Alex finds Sean trying to send an email to a contact about the nuclear missile casings. With Birkhoff’s help she gets Sean back to his bed and gives him a shot of painkiller.

Nikita, Ryan, and Michael return to the house with Ryan stating, “I think I got through to him.” Nikita replies, “I know I did.” And tunes in the bug she planted on him. Birkhoff comments on the poor sound quality wondering where she put it. They overhear Kendrick telling Percy about the encounter. Nikita says, “Don’t think of it as losing an ally. Think of it as gaining a target.”

Ryan is still confused at how Kendrick could be working for Percy. Kendrick calls Ryan back to setup a meet where I can pass the intel. During the call Division is trying to trace it. Kendrick commends Fletcher on his instincts during a previous mission called Black Sands as he ends the call. Nikita wants to take Kendrick out, expecting Division operatives at the scene she feels if the CIA gets involved they will pass the blame to Division.

Division. Percy sends Steven, a former student of Michael’s, to lead the team to the meeting with Kendrick.

Beach House. Sean, still dopey from the pain killer starts flirting with Alex and tells her how amazing she is. Alex pretends it is because he is still drugged.

Michael and Nikita prepare to take out Kendrick from a sniper position at the park.

Beach House. Ryan starts to question the end of the phone call with Kendrick and why he mentioned Black Sands. With Birkhoff’s help they begin to think Kendrick is acting under duress. Birkhoff begins to analyze the call again and picks up a signal from a Division kill chip that was embedded in Kendrick’s heart. They call off Nikita’s shot just in time. Michael and Nikita turn it into a rescue mission.

Nikita and Michael get Kendrick into a subway tunnel with Division operatives in pursuit. As they make it underground Division loses their signal on the kill chip so Kendrick is safe for the moment. Nikita wires up a netbook to an EKG and gets on the metro wireless. Birkhoff builds a VPN to the netbook and looks for a way to hack the pacemaker. Michael defends their position.

Kendrick talks to Nikita and they find some common ground on the limitations of government. He asks her to shoot Percy for him if he doesn’t make it, which brings a smile from Nikita.

Birkhoff has to take the pacemaker offline for about a minute. Kendrick tells them to go ahead.

Michael takes out two Division operatives but Steven keeps on coming. They go hand to hand as they’re both out of bullets. Lots of trash talk from both as they grapple briefly. Then Steven makes a crude comment about Nikita, Michael flips him into a sort of pile-driver snapping his neck on the floor. “I also taught you manners.”

Division. Sonya stumbles on Birkhoff’s VPN as she is scanning for the kill chip. Looks like she is about to stop the trace but Percy sees the location traced back to Birkhoff’s Beach House.

Nikita has to give Kendrick a jolt from the defibrillator as he is telling her about Percy wanting to get into “the club” and he survives until his pacemaker is back online.

Beach House. Alex is avoiding Sean but he insists he meant the things he said. The intrusion alarm goes off. Birkhoff starts passing out guns when he realizes Division is closing in fast. The Alex gets an idea.

The Division operatives crash through the skylights to find the house apparently empty. Then they spot a large amount of explosives just as the house explodes.

A dark SUV is pulling away. Birkhoff tells Alex, “You are buying the next house.” “Deal”.

They go to Fletcher’s safe house and meet up with Michael, Nikita, and Kendrick. Alex and Sean share a kiss in the back of the SUV.

Kendrick gives them access keys to the CIA network and states he’s going back to ferret out any other Division moles.

Division. Roan reports to Percy that the devices are almost ready. Percy doesn’t appear too concerned about Nikita, apparently he is not just building a bomb but has other plans.

Ryan’s Safe House. Nikita makes up with Ryan for her kill first approach with Kendrick. Michael and Nikita share a moment. He asks, “Do you remember when it was just you and me working out of a motel room?” “And before that it was just me. Working out of fabulous loft.” Michael talks about needing their own Operations soon, but Nikita doesn’t like the sound of that. They go back and forth and he suggests “Home-quarters.” As they watch the growing group across the room. Birkhoff, Alex, Sean Pierce, Ryan Fletcher, and now Morgan Kendrick.

Nikita Season 2 Episode 20 – Shadow Walker

Title: Shadow Walker

Air Date: April 27, 2012

Synopsis: Nikita convinces a reluctant Birkhoff to use 20 million dollars of his own money in a plan to trap Percy. After Percy ends up stealing his life savings Birkhoff hacks into an old network and ends up arrested by the FBI. Nikita plans a rescue of Birkhoff while Alex and Michael go after the money.

Zurich, Switzerland. Michael and Nikita stage a bank robbery while Alex, as Alexandra Udinov, sneaks a look at Percy’s account with Birkhoff’s expertise. They all slip out just as the police arrive.

Birkhoff traces the account to Ian Damascus (Carlo Rota who played several characters in La Femme Nikita) who manages the account for Percy.

Ian is surprised by a call from Percy who wants to cash out his account. Percy realizes he shared the account number with Alex and is now vulnerable.

Beach House. Nikita convinces a reluctant Birkhoff to finance her plan with his life savings of 20 million, which he stole during his early hacker days. Birkhoff insists he go on the mission as the wealthy investor to keep an eye on his money.

Ian Damascus’s estate. Nikita is undercover as Birkhoff’s bodyguard. Ian begins scanning the bearer bonds into a new account. Outside Michael and Alex are watching the perimeter when another call pulls up. Damascus shows Birkhoff the new account on a laptop. Meanwhile Damascus leaves the room with the bearer bonds stating he will have them disposed of so there is no paper trail. Ian hands the bonds to Percy’s carrier along with another case but he’s still 30 million short of Percy’s 100 million.

Alex is trying to trace the account on her laptop but announces there’s no WiFi status. Birkhoff realizes they were tricked. Alex tells them that all the Damascus accounts are emptied. Inside Birkhoff and Nikita try to pursue Damascus but are caught by the guards. Roan shoots Damascus. During the ensuing fire fight Nikita gets a minor hit when Birkhoff freezes up and can’t pull the trigger.

Safe House. They suspect Percy will convert it to cash, which means a big truck and Nikita states if they can’t hijack it they will have to destroy it. Birkhoff is not liking that idea and ends up storming out of the house. Planning to get his money back by hacking the way he did the first time.

Birkhoff is in a cyber cafe hacking into an old network he accessed before. The FBI arrives and rescues Birkhoff aka Shadow Walker.

Safe House. Michael is asking Nikita about what happened with Birkhoff and they realize the last time he shot at someone was Carla, who was an old mentor of Nikita’s. Alex, bragging up her skills just like Birkhoff, tracks Roan after he left Ian’s.

Safe House. An alert pops up and they see the local police is holding Birkhoff for the FBI. Nikita goes after him while Alex and Michael go after the money.

Division. Percy sends a team to impersonate FBI and get to Birkhoff first.

Night. Michael and Alex are staking out the truck but they watch three of them leave the building and have to guess which one to follow. Alex makes a remark about using satellite imagery to measure the bumper to ground distance to see which one is weighted down with the money. Michael simply asks if she knows how to do any of that. “No. But I saw it in a movie once.” They follow the third truck but soon find it is empty.

Police station. Nikita impersonates an FBI agent to get Birkhoff out. Division agents engage at Percy’s instruction. They fight their way down a stairwell. Nikita is in trouble when Birkhoff grabs a gun and is able to shoot the Division agent several times to save her. They drive away and call Michael.

Birkhoff pulls satellite imagery and does just as Alex suggested earlier to pinpoint the truck. Michael pursues but realizes they can’t off load the truck before Division gets to it. Birkhoff tells them to destroy the cash before Percy can get it. “I’m looking at the big picture…Just do it before I change my mind.”

Michael blows up the truck with a grenade launcher. At Division, Percy has a pained expression on his face as he watches the surveillance footage.

Still in the car. Birkhoff and Nikita talk about Birkhoff killing Carla and begin to heal that wound.

Next day. Percy meets with some man in an art gallery with a lot of double talk trying to build a new partnership. The man doesn’t seem interested. Percy replies, “Money isn’t everything.”

Safe House. Birkhoff is talking to Nikita. He’s feeling bad that he missed the trick Ian played on him. Birkhoff reminisces about his near legendary status as Shadow Walker that was essentially erased by Division. And the money he just lost was the last symbol of that past. Nikita tells him, “You’re irreplaceable. And one of kind. And that’s a good thing because I don’t think the world could take two of you.” They share a laugh together.

Michael and Alex return with Chinese food. He ribs Alex for messing with his computer. She hands him an envelope saying maybe it will make up for it. Birkhoff slowly slides a check out of the envelope for one million dollars. “I know it is not near what you lost but the best I could do on short notice. Besides you’ll be able to double that in no time right?” Birkhoff replies, “We are going to have to double this. They way Nikki blows through money it’s like her greatest talent in life.”
